University of Allahabad, established on 23rd September 1887, is the fourth oldest university of India. It has occupied an esteemed place among the universities of India for over a century now. The credit for conceiving a large Central College at Allahabad, eventually to develop into a University, is due to Sir William Muir, then Lt. Governor of United Provinces. As a result of his initiative the foundation stone of the Muir Central College (named after him) was laid on Dec. 9 1873 by His Excellency Lord Northbrook.
J. K. Institute of Applied Physics and Technology (J K Institute) stands as one of the most prestigious institutes of our country. It is located in the Muir College Campus (Science Faculty) of the University of Allahabad. Its foundation stone was laid by Late Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on April 14th 1949 and it was formally inaugurated by him on April 4th 1956. It was named as J.K. as J.K. Trust contributed for the construction of the complete building structure. It is a pioneer institute in the country today for teaching and research in the discipline of Electronics, Communication and Computer Science.
